ICYMI AFP-Texas Launches Statewide Tour to Celebrate Wins, Rally Activists for Property Tax Reform

Longview, TX — Americans for Prosperity–Texas (AFP-TX) kicked off its Freedom Unleashed statewide tour recently in Longview, celebrating a historic legislative session that delivered transformational wins on issues ranging from healthcare to housing to the most sweeping expansion of school choice in Texas history.

“I had a great time in Longview with AFP with a lot of friends from back home, connecting after the legislative session,” said Senator Bryan Hughes at the AFP Kick-Off Event. “We’re talking about property taxes. The state has done a lot to reduce property taxes. There’s more work to do. Texas has one of the lowest tax burdens in the country, but our property taxes are higher than most. That’s what this is about, to know. A lot of solutions, a lot of folks who want to get involved. It’s been a good time.”
Now, with the Legislature back in Austin for a special session on property tax reform, AFP-Texas is turning its grassroots energy toward the next big challenge: delivering meaningful, lasting tax relief for Texas families and small businesses through transformational reform.

“This year’s regular session proved what’s possible when Texans organize around policy that expands freedom and opportunity,” said Kristi Antonick, Coalitions Director for Americans for Prosperity–Texas. “From universal Education Savings Accounts to housing reforms and healthcare access, we helped advance a once-in-a-generation agenda. Now, we’re bringing that same momentum to property tax relief — because prosperity shouldn’t be taxed away.”
“Texans want real, structural reform — not band-aids or bumper stickers. AFP is running a full-speed, air raid offense on this issue. With the special session underway, we’re making it clear: property tax reform isn’t optional. It’s urgent,” Antonick added.

The Freedom Unleashed tour is part of AFP-Texas’s broader #FreedomIsBiggerInTexas campaign, which has helped build a statewide movement of grassroots activists ready to engage at the ballot box, in the Capitol, and in their communities.
The tour launch comes just days after Governor Greg Abbott called for a new statewide push — this time focused on property taxes — similar to the push for universal ESAs. AFP-Texas, which stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the Governor on education reform, is once again mobilizing across the state, echoing that same urgency and determination.
The Freedom Unleashed tour will continue through the fall, with stops planned in Lubbock, San Antonio, Houston, McAllen, and beyond.
