AUSTIN, TX – Americans for Prosperity-Texas (AFP-TX) celebrated National School Choice Week on Wednesday with the release of a new video featuring Governor Greg Abbott crediting AFP’s major role in passing Texas’ new universal school choice program.
AFP and Gov. Abbott fought relentlessly during the 2025 state legislative session for the program – the largest of its kind in the nation – which will soon receive thousands of applications from families across the state.
“This was really a grassroots campaign that began long before the session,” Abbott says in the video, following footage of AFP activists meeting with lawmakers. “We would not be at this signing today without AFP and their incredible advocates and volunteers.”
Genevieve Collins, AFP-TX state director, gave the following statement:
“This year, students and families across Texas will finally receive the kind of educational options that they have needed for decades. We finally have an education system that embodies the innovative and entrepreneurial Texas spirit.
“We’re grateful to the hard work by Governor Abbott, our legislative champions, and the countless volunteers who dedicated themselves to making universal school choice a reality in our great state.”
