From East Texas to San Antonio, AFP’s Freedom Unleashed Tour Rallies Texans for Property Tax Reform
San Antonio, TX – Americans for Prosperity–Texas (AFP-TX) is taking its Freedom Unleashed tour deep into communities across the state, building on last month’s launch and driving momentum in the fight for meaningful reform and lasting property tax relief.
This week, grassroots leaders and activists testified in Atlanta, Longview, San Antonio, and Austin, putting local voices at the center of the conversation as the Legislature continues its special session on property taxes.
In San Antonio, the community showed up in force to demand change — and to call out the reality behind the numbers.
“Even small decreases in the tax rate, such as 0.02%, are not enough to offset the skyrocketing appraisals,” said Jon Melendez, AFP-TX Grassroots Engagement Director in San Antonio. “So, while rates go down, bills still go up — and that’s what families feel. Families are being squeezed, and if left unaddressed, more people will be priced out of their homes and communities. Let’s come together and deliver real, meaningful tax relief to the people of San Antonio.”
The Freedom Unleashed tour is part of AFP-Texas’s broader #FreedomIsBiggerInTexas campaign, which is mobilizing activists across the state to make property tax reform a top priority. You can view videos from this week’s events HERE.
“This year’s regular session proved what’s possible when Texans organize around policy that expands freedom and opportunity,” said James Mayville, Deputy Legislative Director for AFP-TX. “Now, we’re bringing that same momentum to property tax relief — because prosperity shouldn’t be taxed away.”
The push comes as skyrocketing appraisals continue to wipe out modest rate cuts, leaving working families and small businesses paying more year after year. AFP-TX is calling for structural reforms to stop the cycle and keep Texans in their homes.
